“The illusion of “condition” would not only fall away
around our experience of compassion,
but also around our understanding of Love as a whole.”[4 minute read]
Hello friends!
Recently I've had the honor of being able to start a Master Degree Program from the Harvard Divinity School (HDS)... excited is an understatement!
What you may not know is that Amber has a Masters in Quantum Sciences, so the intention of my study is that, between us both, we can speak on both religion & science from a place of being truly informed.
And with that, I see an incredible opportunity to share with you throughout this process - to take you along on the journey with me.
Our first submission was on the topic of "Conditional Compassion", I would love to know your thoughts on what was brought forward for me!Brief Reflection on Compassion
Topic: "Conditional Compassion:" How do you choose whom, how, and when compassion is warranted?
The term “conditional compassion” seems like a term created by those in their head and not in their heart.
Do we think compassion? Or do we feel compassion?
Maybe the unintended confusion that fuels the creation of terms like “conditional compassion” is because most people use think & feel interchangeably in language and in conversation (even within their own thoughts).
In addition, when discussing compassion, it’s very common for most people to immediately approach it as an expression from them to another individual or group of people.
Rarely does the conversation of compassion hit on a key element...self-compassion.
And even more rarely does it stem from a soul-level understanding that compassion is not just an emotion that we feel, but a willingness and heart-centered choice to embody oneness - embracing the notion that “what happens to me, happens to you...and what happens to you, happens to me”.
If you are seeking to be a compassionate individual and align your actions with the compassion you are desiring to express, I strongly feel that the moment we start to ask “whom, how and when compassion is warranted”, that’s the indicator that we have left our heart-centered connection and popped right up into our logical brain...shifting the dynamic from feeling to thinking.
As I feel through the word compassion - I feel a profound level of Love. I feel “passion” which is fueled by love and I feel “communication” which is the way I desire to express that love.
With every fiber in my being, I feel that Love is a consciousness and a vibration that we can choose to attune to.
One that creates a space of coexistence and an experience of the unconditional. And because of this, all beings are worthy of compassion.
From this perspective, there is no “condition” around the word compassion, only an awareness of what level of love we desire to embody.
The perceived limitation lies not in the emotion itself, but in our own ability to train our hearts and minds to relate to ourselves and others in a kinder and more gentle way and make a conscious eort to think, act and live in a compassionate manner.
When we as individuals and as a society can stop asking “to whom, how and when compassion is warranted”, and start asking more pertinent questions like “what would love do?”, then I feel the illusion of “condition” would not only fall away around our experience of compassion, but also around our understanding of Love as a whole. What do you think?
Do you see compassion as something conditional? Do you aspire to embody love & compassion always?
